Wavestream Announces Redundancy Kits Supporting PowerStream Solid State Power Amplifiers

Kits Help Satellite Broadcasters Protect Against Transmission Loss

San Dimas, California, June 15, 2010 – Today, Wavestream Corporation announced the availability of Redundancy Kits to complement the company’s family of PowerStream™ Solid State Power Amplifier (SSPA) and Block Upconverter (BUC) products supporting broadcast satellite communications systems. The new Redundancy Kits leverage existing Wavestream controller technology and provide an integrated solution to ensure uninterrupted, reliable broadcast satellite transmissions.

“For the broadcast market, redundant configurations are critical to ensure that the loss of a single amplifier does not result in the loss of transmission and therefore, interruption of service to the customer,” stated Cliff Cooke, president and chief executive officer of Wavestream. “Wavestream has created Redundancy Kits to support our solid state power amplifiers and meet customer requirements for versatility to satisfy both indoor and outdoor infrastructures, ease of installation to accommodate existing racks and outdoor mounts, and improved efficiency and reliability to make sure transmissions remain on-line, all the time.”

Each Redundancy Kit supports Wavestream’s recently introduced PowerStream 600W C-band indoor and outdoor solid state power amplifiers, as well as the company’s outdoor Ku-band Block Upconverters (BUCs) targeting the satellite broadcast market. In a redundant configuration, Wavestream amplifiers have no power draw in stand-by mode and require no warm up time compared to traditional tube-based amplifiers. The result is higher reliability and reduced energy costs over the life of the system.

The Redundancy Kit for Wavestream’s outdoor SSPA can accommodate a variety of customer mounting and power level requirements. For indoor data centers, customers can easily install Wavestream’s Redundancy Kit into an existing cabinet or rack configuration without the need for additional space or system redesign. Redundancy Kits for the PowerStream amplifiers will be available the third quarter of 2010.
